’24 Hours That Changed the World…40 Days of Reflection’
From 24 Hours That Changed the World, 40 Days of Reflection by Adam Hamilton: “I am grateful to the gospel writers for telling us that Jesus knew what it was to be agitated, sorrowful, overwhelmed, and afraid. When I am feeling these things, I remember Jesus’ agony in the garden. And as I pray to him, I know that the one I am talking to has walked in my shoes; understands me in my moments of despair, and intercedes, as a high priest, on my behalf. Lord, …In my times of agony and fear, hold me close. In my doubt and despair, draw me near. Help me in my time of need. Amen.”
From 24 Hours That Changed the World by Adam Hamilton: There are many different dimensions to the suffering and death of Jesus Christ. Among them is the idea that in Jesus’ suffering and death, God was fully identifying with us and was able to experience what we go through as human beings. God knows what it means to feel small, to be attacked mentally and emotionally, and to be physically abused. For every child who was ever picked on, taunted, and humiliated, Jesus stood there that day. For every man and woman who was ever made to fell small by others, he stood there that day. For… everyone falsely condemned, everyone who has been abused by another, he stood there as if God were saying, “I subjected myself to the hate and meanness of others so that I could identify with you.” Lord, my heart aches as I imagine you standing among the soldiers as they hurled insults and spat upon you. Thank you for enduring shame so that you might know the pain we human beings sometimes experience.
