Preschool
The Sonshine Place Nursery in partnership with Children’s Ministries has agreed that transitioning children to the Sunday School Preschool program is a year round decision, rather than a one-time decision. We offer the option to transition to the preschool program 4 times per year; the first Sunday in September, December, March, and June. This transition will begin with the parent and Nursery Director discussing the development, age and skills of the child. In order for a child to have a fun, successful experience in preschool it is important that he/she is developmentally ready for this transition. Below are developmental milestones he/she should have met before considering the move to a preschool environment.
· He/She is three years old.
· He/She is fully potty trained – i.e. he/she can tell an adult on a consistent basis they have to use the toilet.
· Both Parent and Nursery Director agree the child is ready for a classroom setting.
o The child can follow simple directions.
o The child can complete a simple task.
If either the Nursery Director or the Parent feel that the child does not meet the above developmental milestones, this transition can be revisited the following quarter. Children will only transition on a quarterly basis and children must transition to the preschool program by the age of 4 years.
We feel strongly that our mission in the nursery is to love these wonderful children that God has given us. To teach them the love of Jesus Christ and the plans that He has for their lives. We also want to foster the physical and mental development of each child that visits SonShine Place. We structure the learning time to foster all the areas of development. We offer a story time, craft time, play time, and snack time. This enhances skills like; large and small motor, following directions, completing a task, listening, fellowship, being kind to one another, patience and sharing.
