Changing the Story All Summer Long

Join us for SURGE!  A night of worship, prayer, inspiration and discernment for how God is calling Thanksgiving to ‘Change the Story’ in our community this summer!  We will be meeting on June 7, June 28 and July 26 from 6:30pm – 8:00pm in the Family Life Center.

Our hope is that Summer 2017 is a season filled with lots of stories of being changed by our amazing God. This year we are inviting you as individuals, Life Groups or families to join us in reaching out and serving our community. We are asking you to approach this from two perspectives.  The first is what God is inspiring you to do individually.  The second is what God has inspired us to do as a congregation.

Your Inspiration

  1. Pray for God to show you ways to love your neighbors and serve our community.
  2. Gather friends and family together and plan to reach out to the community.
  3. Share what you are doing and when you are doing it with the church so we can come along-side you in your endeavors.

An example of this is an event planned by a Life Group called “Movie Night Under the Stars”.  They are planning three different evenings throughout the summer.  The next movie night is planned for July 21 and they are inviting unchurched families from the local community to join them.

Thanskgiving-Inspired

The church has begun planning three specific outreach opportunities for June and July.  Our hope is that you will attend and invite your friends to join as well.  These events include participation in:

We are partnering with Lutheran Family Services to assist refugee families assimilate into our culture. This fits perfectly with our calling to Change the Story as this program is designed to be relational, not task-oriented. If you or a group of you choose to do this, your role will simply be to get to know them and ensure they have a friendly face in America. So, the requirements are pretty simple:

1.  One 2-hour training to learn about culture and expectations which will be held at Thanksgiving on June 6 from 6:30-8:00pm.

2.  Your group (whether it is a Life Group or a group of people from Thanksgiving that we put together) will have a person or two to meet with the family once per week. Doing this as a group means that your time requirement will be about 2 hours, 1-2 time per month.

Finally, this bring us to our third desire.  Our hope is that you will be inspired either individually or as a Life Group, to create and plan your own unique ways to reach out and love on our community.  In fact, we have our first event already being planning and scheduled by a Life Group.  It is Once you have scheduled an outreach event, please contact Kelly Marz at [email protected] so we can place the event on the calendar.
